Hints and Tips
Model: Discovery 200 and 300
Fault: Rear Door Unable to Open. On occasions the Rear Door catch will not operate at all, allowing no access to the rear of the vehicle.
Solution: Take a thin blade screwdriver and lever off the handle's Land Rover badge (It is only a push-fit.) This will allow you to view the handle through the hole. Whilst pushing the handle backwards and forwards spray WD40 (or similar) on both sides of the internal handle and it will operate freely.
Model: All 300 TDI Engines
Fault: Pre-mature Cam Timing Belt Failure. On all 300 TDI Engines the cam belt can slowly work its way off of the various gears and rub the outer cover.
Solution: This will shred the edge o the belt and finally cause its failure, resulting in pushrod, rocker arm and possible valve damage. Land Rover did not recall these engines but did sell a modification kit. However all that is required is when a new belt is fitted a new modified pulley is replaced at the same time.
Model: All 200 and 300 TDI Engines
Fault: Cam Belt Timing Failure.
Solution: Land Rover recommends that the cam timing belt on these engines should be replaced at 60,000 miles or 6 years. However we believe they should be replaced at 48,000 miles or 4 years as we have had belts fail on all models between 48,000 and 60,000 miles.
