The BBC are currently airing the remake of their 1975 series Survivors - following the survivors of an apocalypse in their struggle for survival. The original series ran for 38 episodes, and the up to date version features all the modern technology and altered cultural concepts that have evolved since that time.

The lead role of Greg Preston is played by Paterson Joseph, and the character is accompanied by a Land Rover kitted out with a wealth of survival gear and equipment designed to provide everything he needs for living in the rough world left behind after a virus wipes out most of the worlds population. The Land Rover (which may be a Defender model) is more than capable of traversing the post apocalyptic landscape, although it remains to be seen how Greg refuels his vehicle since the petrol stations would presumably all be unmanned and unpowered.

Land Rover has entered the cycling market with a new sponsorship role for Land Rover-ORBEA, the young cycling development team based out of Portland, Ore. Looking to step into a first year U.S. continental squad for 2009, Land Rover-ORBEA now has the title sponsorship it needs to push them to the next level. Land Rover-ORBEA benefits the Lance Armstrong Foundation and has two core missions, raising funds and awareness for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and developing young and up-and-coming cyclists. While the team is U.S. based, the riders are from around the globe. In conjunction with its 60th Anniversary celebrations Land Rover has donated 60 vehicles to the Red Cross, providing much needed rough-terrain transport and support.

“We are delighted to celebrate our 60th anniversary by donating 60 much-needed vehicles to the Red Cross. Land Rovers have optimal capabilities for harsh and remote terrain access and this donation will ensure that those who are most in need are reached quickly and effectively. We already have an association with the Red Cross through the Land Rover G4 Challenge and this donation furthers that relationship.”

Half the vehicles will stay in the UK, some undergoing ambulance conversions and being used in flood and disaster recovery. The other half will be taken to societies in Sierra Leone, Lesotho and Mongolia to ensure they have transport that can reach the areas that most need emergency response vehicles and supplies.

To add to its already impressive list of awards, the Land Rover Discovery has also been awarded the prize for best used 4×4 car by the What Car? magazine.

The vehicle impressed with its versatility and long-lasting road capabilities.
The award takes account of a number of factors, including price, performance, availability, desirability and reliability for used cars. The Discovery triumphed over the Nissan X-Trail and the Kia Sorento. Land Rover’s used vehicles are also backed up by the Land Rover Approved User Scheme, which can offer rigorous checks of vehicles and ensure they are the best possible condition before going on to new owners.
